Alex Gómez-Marín

Bio

Àlex Gómez-Marín (Barcelona, 1981) is a PhD in theoretical physics and a neuroscientist. Alex obtained his Bachelor's and Doctorate from the University of Barcelona. He later became a postdoctoral researcher at the EMBL-CRG Center for Genomic Regulation and also at the Champalimaud Center for the Unknown in Lisbon. Since 2016, he has been a researcher at the Institute of Neurosciences in Alicante. He is currently a senior researcher there and a tenured scientist at the Spanish National Research Council. Alex has also been the director of the Pari Center in the Italian Tuscany, a center for exploring the intersection of science, art, and the sacred. With more than a hundred articles, his research has been published in high-impact scientific journals, including Nature Neuroscience, Science, and Neuron. In March 2021, a severe stomach hemorrhage brought him to the brink of death, experiencing an event that transformed him personally and professionally. Since then, he has directed his research toward what he calls the 'margins of consciousness', exploring phenomena such as near-death experiences, synchronicities, and extrasensory perceptions. His research focuses on the study of the human mind in the real world, a strange and wonderful field where the enigma often meets stigma at the 'frontiers of the impossible'. There is a consciousness beyond the brain, and science can prove it.
