Nos cayó el Veinte Open call until November 2
What if an image were hiding something you hadn’t seen yet?
There are moments when something clicks: a conversation, an image, or an experience changes the way we understand things. In Mexico, we say “me cayó el veinte,” our version of “the penny dropped.” Our campaign makes it plural—Nos cayó el Veinte—because these new understandings also happen in community.
For its first edition in Mexico City, The Festival of Consciousness invites illustrators to reinterpret the 54 cards of its conceptual universe, inspired by the Mexican lotería. Each card brings together an illustration, a word, and a question: three clues that open up new readings when they meet.
The open call runs until November 2, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. (Mexico City time).
The word is not an instruction. It is a clue.
Imagine a card whose illustration shows a door and whose word is “The Key.” The answer doesn’t have to be drawing a key. What matters is exploring the relationship between the image, the word, and the question, and the new reading that emerges from it.
We are not looking for copies, literal representations, or a single right answer. The same card can give rise to completely different interpretations, and that is where its potential lies. We are looking for original perspectives that combine elements of the traditional lotería with symbols from the Mexican context and the FOC universe, and visual languages capable of opening up new conversations.
Explore the catalog of 54 cards, read their questions, and keep the ones that spark something in you. You can choose up to three.
From your perspective to the FOC deck
Explore and choose
Browse the catalog and select up to three cards. Look at the illustration, the word, and the question: your proposal should grow out of the relationship between all three.
Create your interpretation
Develop an original illustration in your own visual language: drawing, painting, collage, digital, traditional, or mixed techniques. You don’t have to copy the reference image or represent the word literally; what matters is the interpretation you build.
Submit your proposal
Prepare your files according to the technical specifications in the guidelines (format, dimensions, resolution, color profile, and file naming) and complete the submission form. You can submit up to three proposals, one for each card you choose.
Before you start
Works must be original and your own. This invitation is a voluntary, unpaid collaboration: the selected works will become part of the official FOC México deck, will be used in its campaign with each artist credited, and may be exhibited during the festival. See the full guidelines for the timeline, requirements, uses of the works, and the selection process.
Selection process
It’s not about drawing better. It’s about seeing differently. Proposals will be assessed on five criteria:
- Conceptual interpretation
- Originality and creativity
- Quality and visual language
- Communicative power
- Affinity with FOC México
An international jury will select 54 works and will announce the results by email.
About FOC México
After five editions in Barcelona, The Festival of Consciousness comes to Mexico City on January 9 and 10, 2027, at General Prim (Colonia Juárez), in partnership with Proyectos Públicos.
We explore consciousness through science, spirituality, art, activism, education, and business, guided by four values: collaboration, diversity, open-mindedness, and the courage to explore the unknown. FOC is a nonprofit project, run by volunteers and sustained by donations.
We arrive eager to listen to and learn from Mexico: we want its creativity and its voices to be at the heart of this first edition.
FAQs
Who can take part?
Illustrators and visual artists who want to bring their perspective to the world of FOC México. You will find the full requirements in the guidelines.
Is this a paid collaboration?
No. FOC is built as a community: people and organizations contribute time, knowledge, creativity, and resources according to what they can and wish to share. Entry to the festival will be free, with no mandatory upfront payment, and attendees will be able to make a voluntary contribution.
This invitation is part of that same spirit: it is a voluntary, unpaid collaboration. The works will feature in the campaign with full credits, authorship will be fully respected, and their creators will be able to take part in the festival and connect with its community. We will agree with each artist on the scope, timeline, and uses of their work, so they can freely decide whether the proposal makes sense for them.
How will my work be used?
Selected works will be revealed gradually across FOC México’s digital campaign, linked to the festival’s themes, speakers, and experiences, and may be part of a group exhibition on January 9 and 10, 2027, at General Prim, Mexico City. Each work will be credited to its author, and the authorship will always remain yours.
