Understanding consciousness is expected to positively impact society and have medical, economic, ethical, legal, and social implications for the future of humanity. This knowledge, as well as the creation of technological tools to measure and quantify conscious states will have the potential to improve our healthcare system as well upgrade human ethical standards with regard to our relationships with other forms of life that cohabit planet earth.

It is also likely to play a significant role in preparing humanity to deal with the emergence of new forms of artificial intelligence (AI), hopefully improving the odds that Al becomes a beneficial technology for humans rather than the existential threat that some fear.
